Honda Oil Change Cost and Coupons in Sylacauga, AL

A Honda oil change at Serra Honda of Sylacauga uses the genuine Honda filter and the oil weight Honda specifies for your engine, installed by Honda-trained technicians. Most Hondas built since 2006 call for service through the Maintenance Minder system rather than a fixed interval, typically somewhere between 5,000 and 7,500 miles depending on how the car is driven.

The price

How much is a Honda oil change?

The price depends on three things: the oil your engine specifies, the filter, and whether the visit is an A service or a B service. Here is how each moves the number.

Oil type. Nearly every current Honda engine, including the 1.5-liter turbo in the Civic and CR-V and the 2.0-liter engine in the hybrids, specifies full synthetic 0W-20. A full synthetic change costs more per quart than conventional oil, and it is not an upsell: it is what the owner's manual requires. Older Hondas that allow 5W-20 or 5W-30 conventional oil cost less to service.

Capacity and filter. A four-cylinder Civic takes less oil than a V6 Pilot, and every change here uses the genuine Honda filter and drain plug washer.

A or B service. If your Maintenance Minder shows an A code, the visit is an oil change plus a multi-point inspection. A B code adds the oil filter and a set of inspections of brakes, steering, suspension, exhaust and fluids, so it is priced as a larger service. The code table below explains what each one covers.

Our current oil change pricing, including this month's coupon, is published on the service specials page so that it can change with the coupon rather than going stale here. Call (256) 245-5000 with your year and model and we will quote the exact price for your engine before you book.

How often does a Honda need an oil change?

When the Maintenance Minder says so. Honda's system calculates the interval from engine temperature, trip length and driving conditions, then displays a main code and, when other items are due, one or more sub-codes.

CodeWhat it means
AReplace the engine oil.
BReplace the engine oil and oil filter; inspect brakes, steering, suspension, exhaust, fluid levels and fuel system.
1Rotate the tires.
2Replace the engine air filter and cabin air filter; inspect the drive belt.
3Replace the transmission fluid.
4Replace the spark plugs and timing belt if equipped; check valve clearances and the water pump.
5Replace the engine coolant.
6Replace the rear differential fluid, on AWD models.
7Replace the brake fluid.

Source: American Honda Motor Co., Honda Knowledge base, "What do the Maintenance Minder codes mean on my Honda?" A main code always appears; sub-codes are added only when those items are due. B12, for example, means oil and filter plus inspections, tire rotation, and both air filters with a drive belt inspection.

Two practical notes. The oil life percentage on the dash counts down from 100; when it reaches 15 percent the wrench icon appears and the code is displayed, and at 5 percent the message says service is due now. And the system does not know the calendar: if you drive very little, Honda still recommends an oil change at least once a year, because oil degrades with time as well as miles.

Straight answer

Synthetic vs conventional oil for your Honda

Use what the owner's manual specifies. For most Hondas on the road today that is full synthetic 0W-20, and it is not negotiable for the turbocharged and hybrid engines.

CR-V · 1.5L turbo, full synthetic 0W-20

Full synthetic oil holds its viscosity across a wider temperature range, resists breakdown under the heat a turbocharger generates, and keeps the tight tolerances in a modern Honda engine clean. That is why Honda specifies it, and why a turbo engine run on the wrong oil can carbon up in ways that cost far more than the price difference at the service lane. Synthetic also supports the longer intervals the Maintenance Minder calculates, so the per-mile cost gap against conventional oil is smaller than the per-quart price suggests.

If you have an older Honda whose manual allows conventional 5W-20 or 5W-30, conventional oil is a legitimate and cheaper choice, and we will not push you off it. The one thing we will insist on is the correct viscosity and a genuine Honda filter. Ask us which oil your manual calls for; we look it up by VIN, not by guess.

How much is a Honda oil change at the dealer?+

It depends on the oil your engine specifies, the filter and whether the visit is an A or B service. Current pricing and this month's coupon are on our service specials page, and we will quote the exact price for your year and model by phone at (256) 245-5000.

What does the A1 or B1 code mean on my Honda?+

A means replace the engine oil; B means replace the oil and filter and inspect brakes, steering, suspension, exhaust and fluids. The 1 means rotate the tires. So A1 is an oil change with tire rotation, and B1 is the larger service with tire rotation.

Can I use synthetic oil in my Honda?+

Yes. Most current Hondas require full synthetic 0W-20, including every turbocharged and hybrid engine. Use the viscosity your owner's manual specifies; we look it up by VIN.

Does an oil change at a quick lube void my Honda warranty?+

No. Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, maintenance at an independent shop does not void your Honda warranty as long as it is done on schedule with the correct oil and filter and you keep the receipts. Using the wrong oil can cause damage the warranty will not cover, so make sure any shop uses what the manual specifies.
